Broadway is Back in Cincinnati!

Broadway is Back in Cincinnati!

In October, the curtain rose on “Pretty Woman,” the first Broadway show at the Aronoff Center in a long time. As might be expected after a 21-month wait, the crowd went wild. For many in the audience, the last time they’d seen a live theater show had been in February 2020. Theaters across America had gone dark due to the COVID-19 pandemic, including here in Cincinnati. But thanks to their hardworking team, Broadway in Cincinnati was able to reschedule the season. Now Broadway is officially back in Cincinnati!

“We have a record number of subscribers this year,” says Elizabeth Truitt, director of regional marketing and public relations at Broadway Across America. “It’s the highest number we’ve ever had. Our audience seems to be so excited to come back, and we are so grateful for the support they’ve shown for us.”

Season ticket holders are in for a series of amazing shows. But it’s not too late to get tickets! Individual tickets for every performance (except Hamilton, coming soon) are now available and can be ordered directly from the Aronoff Center Ticket Office. Season tickets for the 2022-23 season will be available in the spring.

This season’s shows feature a diverse range of experiences, even for people who have been attending for years. “There’s something for everyone,” Truitt says. “There are brand-new shows, family shows, and classics.”

Lovers of Broadway can enjoy the shows knowing that the staff are doing everything they can to keep people safe. Theatergoers are required to show proof of vaccination (or a recent negative COVID test), as well as ID. Masks are also required inside except when eating and drinking in the lobby. While these changes are new, the team has an efficient system at getting everyone into the building and to their seats, just like they’ve always done.

Broadway in Cincinnati shows typically run for two weeks at the Aronoff Center downtown. Showtimes are Tuesday through Thurs- day evenings at 7:30 and Friday evenings at 8. On Saturdays and Sundays, there is both a matinee and evening show.

The season has already included “Pretty Woman” and the smash hit “Wicked,” but there’s plenty of exciting shows to come, including fan-favorite “Hamilton” in fall 2022.

My Fair Lady – February 8-20

Next up for theater lovers is the beloved classic, “My Fair Lady.” This beautifully staged production features classic songs and beauti- ful costuming. The story of the Cockney flower girl who is taught to be a proper lady by Henry Higgins, a curmudgeonly linguistics professor, charms audiences wherever it goes. This revival is winning rave reviews from critics. Don’t miss your chance to see this musical back here in Cincinnati.

Ain’t Too Proud – March 15-27

“Ain’t Too Proud” is the story of the hit musical group, The Temptations, and their extraordinary journey from Detroit to Motown legends. This new musical won a 2019 Tony Award for Best Choreography (and was nominated for 12 more). It features some of the most beloved songs in R&B, like “My Girl.” Grab a ticket to enjoy a brand-new production in its first U.S. tour that will have you dancing right out of the theater.

Disney’s Frozen – April 20-May 1

Almost every parent probably knows the story of Elsa and Anna. This brand-new production is from the same creative team that brought the movie to life (Jennifer Lee, Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez), plus it features a dozen new musical numbers that you’ll hum all the way home. This show is almost sold out, so don’t wait to get tickets!

To Kill a Mockingbird – May 31-June 12

Based on one of the most important books of the 20th century, this is a show that cannot be missed. Academy Award-winner Aaron Sorkin adapted this version of the Pulitzer Prize-winning book. The story focuses on Atticus Finch, a lawyer in 1930s Alabama who defends an unjustly accused Black man. Rolling Stone gave this new adaptation five stars.

The Band’s Visit – July 19-24

One of the most award-winning shows in history, “The Band’s Visit” was the Tony Award-winner for Best Musical in 2018. When a band of musicians shows up in a small town, it brings beautiful music and new life to them all. This unique show has the talented musicians up on the stage, and its soundtrack won a Grammy. This lovely show will lift your spirits ... and have you wanting to see it again.
