The Beauty of Art: The William Duebbler Artist Award Winner

Art Design Consultants in Cincinnati has been conducting an art competition for 10 years known as “Art Comes Alive,” which has grown to international stature. After William Duebbler, a talented artist, passed away several years ago, his children created an award in his name. This year, Jolie Harris, whose artwork is abstract expressionism, received that award.

“I’m honored to have been accepted,” says Harris, an artist for the past 12 years. “Judges told me they selected my work because it reminded them of William’s abstract style, which was also very textural in nature.”

Working primarily in acrylic paint and using gels, pastes, and other mediums to build texture, Harris often incorporates mark making and collage into her work.

“I adore color, and I like working on large pieces as I use my entire body in the process,” says Harris. Inspired by music, energy, emotion and nature, she constantly studies other artists and appreciates multiple disciplines.

“The world is full of beauty and emotion, if one is paying attention,” says Harris, who has a studio in the Solway Gallery Building in the Findlay Market area. She also works in her Delray Beach studio. “I’m always learning something through observation.”

Art is critical for so many reasons in the way it can heal, help, move, and motivate people, she continues.

“I think art can stir emotion and bring people together. As our society continues to crumble, we need as much joy and beauty as we can get.”
