The Heritage Club, established in 1996 by co-developers Ken Campbell and Robert Rhein, was designed to be a true golfer’s paradise. With no tee times and a cap of 295 members, the P.B. Dye-designed championship 18-hole golf course provides a challenging but enjoyable experience for all players, regardless of skill level.
In 2003, the club was turned over to the membership; it has been member-owned ever since.
“Having a sense of ownership is so nice for members, and they take great pride in their club,” says Dan Plunkett, general manager of Heritage Club.
The clubhouse went through major renovations in 2016 when the dining area and furnishings were updated. More good things are on the horizon as the club is in the midst of expanding its practice facilities. By Memorial Day, members will be able to enjoy a new driving range and putting practice green. The driving range will be double the size of the previous one.
“Ever since COVID, golf has become so popular because it’s an activity where people felt comfortable playing outdoors. The number of golf rounds has grown substantially in the industry, helping to grow the game for future generations,” Plunkett says. “Members will appreciate that extra room to warm up and get ready. Plus, it really helps to have no tee times because if there are a couple of people ahead of you, you can head out to the range and loosen up by hitting some balls.”
The driving range, which has views looking down onto the fairway, will have different pin placements to emulate being on the golf course.
The new practice green will be 26,000 square feet, making it one of the largest in the state.
“Heritage is known for really complex greens,” Plunkett says. “When warming up, golfers wanted to have true conditions, so it’s got lots of undulations and hills.”
In addition to practice, the club plans to utilize the new green complex for other fun activities. There are plans to set up a full 18-hole putting course since there is plenty of room to do so. The club also plans to host various contests for club tournaments. In addition, there are golf sunset mixers for couples throughout the summer, and the space allows for fun games before and after the event.
“It’s great because the whole family will be able to enjoy these practice facilities,” says Plunkett, who became the new general manager of the club in October 2022.
“I’ve really enjoyed getting to know the employees and members,” Plunkett says. “This is a really vibrant community with a great sense of belonging. I am looking forward to the excitement our new amenities will bring for both our members and their guests.”
In addition to the golfing facilities, Heritage Club also offers other ways to enjoy membership, including a relaxing swimming pool and two tennis courts that can be converted into pickleball courts. The club also has casual dining and some large al fresco dining options in addition to banquet facilities that are perfect for holding private events of all occasions.
Plunkett notes that the club is currently on a waitlist, making this the perfect time to join.
“Hopefully by the time spring rolls around, potential members who join the club now will make it off the waitlist just in time for the nice weather to return,” he says. “We want everyone to be able to enjoy all the wonderful amenities that the club will have to offer.”
