Why Our Family Loves Crossroads Church: 7 Things I’ve Learned That Will Stick With Me

Wow, 2020 was quite a year.

It changed so much about our lives. For those of us who needed to slow down, it may have changed us for the better. For others, it may have been anywhere from really tough to catastrophic. As with most new years, we enter with fresh hope. This is especially true for 2021.

I actually wrote this article (below) a year ago. The timing of the pandemic forced me to submit a different article at the last minute, but now that we are in a new year with a new perspective, I thought it might be a good time to reflect on the learnings below. Please enjoy the article … my apologies that it is a year late.

As I do from time to time, I like to occasionally write about something outside of the realm of finance. As I reflect on 2019, I realize how big of an impact Crossroads is having on my family’s life. Regardless of where you are coming from, what you believe about God or what you have heard, you should give Crossroads a try to help make it a great 2020.

One of my goals in life is to share what I’m learning and from where those lessons come. The following insights are but several I have gleaned from my family’s time in worship and fellowship at Crossroads Church:

  1. Who you marry will double your impact or cut it in half.
  2. Families that play together stay together (prayer time and discipline are important, but children won’t come back home after college if they don’t genuinely enjoy being together).
  3. Most burnout, affairs, and bad stuff in general (especially in men) come from a lack of play, a hobby, or a healthy outlet to recharge out- side of purely working all the time.
  4. Many of us have a hard time playing because we don’t trust that God has our back if we take our focus off our work and purpose.
  5. God wants us to learn to give, not because he needs our resources but because when we are generous, we become more like Him.
  6. The No. 1 trait to predict your potential impact (assuming you are pursuing the right things) is your aggression.
  7. There are a lot of weird Christians at church. If you go to church and don’t know one, it’s you.
