Women Presidents’ Organization Announces Julie D. Mueller as Newest Member of Prestigious Women’s Business Organization

New York, NY - The Women Presidents’ Organization (WPO), a peer advisory group for million dollar plus women-led companies, has announced Julie D. Mueller, President & CEO at Custom Design Benefits as the newest member of the Greater Cincinnati II Chapter of the WPO.

“We have found that the best leaders are always learning and that business leaders at the second-stages of growth and beyond learn best from the experiences of their peers.” said Camille Burns, WPO Chief Executive Officer. “Collaboration has never been more important. I am very pleased to welcome Julie Mueller to the powerful WPO community, where successful entrepreneurs use the power of peer learning to take their businesses to the next level.”

Julie Mueller is the President & CEO of Custom Design Benefits (CDB), a Third Party Administrator of health care benefits based in Cincinnati, Ohio. This year CDB celebrates 30 years in business, and is the only privately held and independent TPA in the Tri-State area.  CDB is known for offering innovative cost containment solutions to employers while providing their members with high-touch customer service.

Ms. Mueller has served in the health care field throughout her career. Her early days began with MEDCO Peer Review, a corporation launched by physicians in the 1970s to manage Medicare cost, in one of the early forays into managed care. Then she was a team of four individuals who launched a TPA using similar cost containment strategies to help self-funded employers manage their health care costs.  She spent twenty years as a senior executive growing this TPA to one of the nation’s largest.

After joining Custom Design Benefits in 2003, Ms. Mueller and her team have created a dynamic, service-oriented organization specializing in the administration of self-funded health benefits, compliance services such as FMLA, COBRA and Consumer Driven Services, as well as medical and pharmacy risk management services.  Julie purchased Custom Design Benefits in 2016, growing the CDB team by 30% and the client base by 61% by 2020. Outside of CDB, Julie serves on the Board of Directors of the Health Care Administrators Association (HCAA), a non-profit trade association supporting the education, networking, resource and advocacy needs of the self-funding industry.

“We could not be more excited to have Julie join the Greater Cincinnati II Chapter of the WPO,” said Greater Cincinnati II Chapter Chair Elaine Suess “Through confidential and collaborative peer learning groups, WPO members learn new strategies for taking their businesses to the next level.”

Requirements for membership to the WPO include annual revenue of at least $2 million USD ($1 million USD for service-based companies) and an ownership interest in the company.
