Q. You’re a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist. What is that?
It is a certification that I received from National Association of Home Builders. Certified Aging In-Place Specialists help people stay in their homes longer. As people get older, they want to stay in their homes. They don’t want to go to a nursing home facility. It’s all based on helping someone in all areas of their house when we remodel or build to allow them to function safely longer, whether it’s wider doors, wider hallways, the way we set their kitchen up, the way a pantry and bathroom functions. It has also been useful in working with people with handicaps.
I was the first Certified Aging-in-Place specialist in Greater Cincinnati. When we’re working with clients, especially the older generation, I like to mention these things because I think it’s important for people to know that there are options. Early on, these products looked very institutional. Now they blend in as if they were meant to be. Our clients are happy we talked through these items.
Q. What are the trends you’re seeing in 2023?
I think it’s family spaces. People want family space together. The other thing is bringing the outdoors in. We get calls for covered porches and three-season rooms weekly. Tying the inside and the outside together is still a big part of what people want.
Q. Can you tell us about how you give back to the community?
I feel like we’re blessed, and I want to help bless other people and give back to organizations. We started Gustin Gives Back many years ago. I have chosen 10 organizations that are near and dear to my heart. Every client we do a project for, we ask them to choose one of the organizations, and we give back to that organizations at the end of the year on their behalf. It’s all about them and their name going to the organization; it’s not about us. I think it’s important to give to these organizations.
Q. What sets you apart?
I think it’s our people and our process. We have a great team; we’re very organized.
We work with our clients early to understand their needs, their families and their lifestyle. Our process of making selections and the building process is very well organized in the office and the field to make that process as smooth and easy as possible. There are a lot of decisions to be made building or remodeling a custom home.
I have a great relationship with all of our clients. They become our friends. The more I learn about them, the more I can help them make their project the best.
