Kuy Plastic Surgery: Helping Women Stay Healthy From the Outside, In

Admit it. You’re scrolling through your social media feed and there it is — an ad for the perfect new product to make all your wrinkles disappear. You click; you can’t help it.

You buy the product, try it, and — big surprise — it’s no better than what you are already using. Or worse, it causes problems you didn’t have before.

That’s what happened to Jennifer. When she developed bumps on her eyelids and under her eyes, she tried several products she saw in ads and a few home remedies she found online.

“Nothing was working. The last thing I tried was apple cider vinegar, and my eyelids started burning horribly. I thought, ‘What are you doing?’” Jennifer says.

A friend told Jennifer about Kuy Plastic Surgery and Swiss Medi- Spa, a practice in the Rookwood Exchange in Norwood that em- bodies a seamless blend of medical science and beauty care. The team of certified, experienced professionals provides medical-grade services in the luxurious environment of a high-end spa.

“I was nervous about going and kind of embarrassed. I didn’t want to seem vain or overly concerned about my appearance. That’s not who I am,” Jennifer says. “But it got to the point that I wouldn’t leave the house or socialize — even with family — because I was so self-conscious. I knew I had to do something.”

Her consultation with Daniel Kuy, M.D., F.A.C.S., revealed that the bumps were more than a nuisance; they were cholesterol deposits that needed to be surgically removed. Cholesterol deposits can be a symptom of more severe conditions, including thyroid disease and diabetes.

“These days, there is so much information at our fingertips, but it is so important to not rely on marketing or what you see on social media,” says Kendra Coppage, an advanced esthetician at Swiss Medi-Spa. “We have an entire team that works together to get to know each client personally, understand their unique needs, give them our best professional advice, and decide the best treatment plan.”

Improving Women’s Lives

The team at Kuy Plastic Surgery and Swiss Medi-Spa are well equipped to provide a variety of dermatological and surgical care services, ranging from chemical peels to help improve the signs of sun damage to facial cosmetic and body contouring procedures.

But the team’s ultimate goal is to improve women’s lives to keep them healthy and feeling good on the outside — and the inside.

“What we see in the mirror reflects indirectly on the rest of our well-being,” says Dr. Kuy, certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and American Board of Surgery.

According to the Office on Women’s Health, a negative body image can put women at higher risk for depression, anxiety, eating disorders and other mental health conditions.

“It’s so important to be emotionally healthy,” Dr. Kuy emphasizes. “Our Medi-Spa team is critical to providing nurturing, holistic care for our patients to ensure the best possible outcomes overall.”

The Swiss Medi-Spa team comprises a sisterhood of professional women — nurse practitioners, advanced estheticians and others — who collaborate to provide innovative yet compassionate care to women.

“It’s about self-care, and it’s so much more than skin deep,” says Ashleigh Biggs-McGee, nurse practitioner. “Many women we care for have gone through tough things and need a little help getting back to the best versions of themselves.” Jennifer can relate.

“For me, the bumps were a result of extreme stress. I was caring for my mother, who was ill, my kids and my home. I had a lot going on. I didn’t take the time to care for myself, and it started to take a toll on my physical and emotional well-being,” Jennifer says. “The stress I was feeling inside showed itself on my skin.”

“I was so glad I chose Dr. Kuy’s practice,” she continues. “I had the benefit of an expert physician who knew the potential risks and did the necessary bloodwork to rule out any serious conditions related to my skin issue. And I had a team of women dedicated to ensuring I would truly heal, not just my skin but the emotional scars, too. It’s a level of care I would never have received at a standard spa.”

Holistic Care to Maintain Healthy Outcomes

Women of all ages visit Swiss Medi-Spa. Just as each client is unique, so is each skin care regimen or treatment.

“We’re going to take care of you from start to finish,” Briggs- McGee says. “If the care you need is not in my wheelhouse, I’ll connect you with one of my colleagues. Together, we’ll find a solution to get you the results you’re looking for.”

Swiss Medi-Spa offers an array of non-invasive techniques to rejuvenate the skin and help conquer those trouble spots, such as cellulite, age spots and discoloration. And they do so much more.

One of the most popular options is dermal fillers, which are injections that minimize fine lines and wrinkles. Because of the Kuy team’s expertise, they were recently chosen among a select few to use the newest product, RHA fillers.

“It’s a beautiful product closely related to hyaluronic acid that the body produces naturally to help retain water and keep tissues lubricated and plump. It responds well to facial movement for a very natural result,” Coppage explains.

Regardless of what concerns a client brings to the table, one thing the team recommends universally is prevention.

“Many clients come to us with compromised skin. They have dry- ness, redness, rough texture or sensitivity and need to get their skin back in balance,” says Lindsey Erickson, nurse practitioner. “Some- times they have aging due to inflammation from poor gut health or a hormone imbalance. Others have healthy skin and want to keep it that way.”

Prevention is key to keeping the skin as healthy as possible, reducing the risk of skin cancer and future damage, and keeping yourself healthy inside and out.

“Our 12-month program is one of the best options. Clients get collaborative, personal attention and a regimen tailored to meet their specific needs and goals,” Coppage says. “Everybody loves a quick fix, but this plan takes the slow and steady approach.”

Although Jennifer admits she was anxious the first time she walked through Swiss Medi-Spa’s doors, the warm and nurturing environment and personalized care keep her coming back.

“The entire team was so nice and welcoming. No judgment, just kindness and a sincere desire to help me,” Jennifer says. “When I wanted to get fillers after dental implants made my lips look uneven, the decision to return was easy. Now, I lie back in the chair, relax and let them take care of me.”
