St. Elizabeth and its associates have completed the building of its Habitat for Humanity home in Covington (Latonia Lakes) for a fellow associate and her family. The project concluded with a celebration and dedication ceremony on Saturday, April 23 at 9 a.m. where associates of St. Elizabeth and various community partners will join in a blessing of the home and family.
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Cincinnati is a non-profit Christian housing ministry that seeks to eliminate substandard housing by building, renovating and repairing simple and affordable homes to sell to families in need.
Over the past four months, more than 770 St. Elizabeth associates and their family and friends came together to help build this home. St. Elizabeth quickly became Habitat for Humanity of Greater Cincinnati’s largest volunteer organization by accumulating 2,557 volunteer hours dedicated to this home alone.
“A Habitat home is more than bricks and mortar. It’s opportunity,” says Garren Colvin, St. Elizabeth President and CEO. “Each day within our hospitals and physician offices, we have the privilege to provide extraordinary care to our patients and fellowship to our coworkers. But together, we helped makes someone’s dream, a reality. Our St. Elizabeth team has unwavering passion and commitment to each of our patients and community, but we also have that same commitment to each other. We are pleased to now be Habitat’s largest volunteer organization, but we are even more honored to help create this moment and memory for Elizabeth and her family.”
Habitat does not give away homes. Habitat partner families help build their own home with fellow volunteers and then purchase the home when completed with a 20-30 year mortgage. The estimated mortgage payment is $500 per month including taxes and insurance. Habitat provides hope, opportunity and a fresh start for many families.
