Saint Ursula Academy is beginning an exciting new chapter this school year.

The all-girls Catholic high school recently welcomed two new administrators to its already exceptional and talented leadership team. Meet Kathy Restle, SUA Principal, and Amber Grayson, Vice Principal for Academics. Both women were attracted to SUA because of its powerful sense of community.

Restle says she wanted to be part of a school community with motivated students and supportive teachers who help them learn, grow and thrive. She has 23 years of experience in education as an English teacher, assistant principal and principal. Most recently, she was employed at Walnut Hills High School in Cincinnati. Although working at an all-girls school is new for Restle, she is thrilled with the opportunity to help guide SUA’s students and teachers.

“We’re in desperate need of women who know their worth and who have developed a strong character and faith,” she says. “In my own life, I know how much I value my female friends. They’re the people who challenge, empower and support me in ways others don’t.”

Grayson began her career in San Diego, teaching fourth grade before moving into an administrative role. With 11 years of previous experience as an administrator at an all-girls school, she is delighted to join the SUA leadership team.

“I love what a gift this school is for young women — a school where they have the space to focus on their learning, build relationships and take healthy risks,” says Grayson. “These are formative years for students. We can make such an impact on the decisions they make as young women, whether that’s pursuing college or doing something else. Being a part of that journey is such a privilege.”

Grayson believes that working in an all-girls school environment is her true calling.

“I entered the education field because I love the learning experience,” she says. “I love how the brain works, and I love helping people achieve optimum learning.”

Upholding Saint Angela Merici’s Values

“The school was founded in 1910 on Saint Angela Merici’s values, and that remains a constant,” says Grayson. “Talking to these young women about how they can live out those values and holding them accountable is a wonderful opportunity.”

Grayson will meet with students to discuss their desired future classes and ensure faculty can provide those learning experiences.

“I’ll be assisting with that experience throughout the year so it can be as seamless as possible for all parties involved,” she adds.

During their first year at SUA, both Restle and Grayson hope to become a part of the school culture as they acquaint themselves with parents, faculty, staff and students.

Restle has two sons, both of whom attended an all-boys school. Grayson has two daughters, ages 8 and 6. Wearing that parental hat, the two administrators agree, gives them invaluable insight into what their students’ parents feel.

“We know that parents want their children to be loved and cared for,” Restle says. “So, our goal at Saint Ursula Academy is to offer them the highest quality education and support.”

Extracurricular Endeavors

Both women share a love for travel and a bucket-list goal of visiting all 50 states. Restle started this quest three years ago during COVID-19, but Grayson only needs to check off Idaho and Vermont.

After interacting with people all day, Restle relishes quiet time spent in nature. Grayson enjoys gardening, hiking and yard work. Both are devoted to Angelo, SUA’s therapy dog.

“I signed us up to be Angelo’s handler so we can take him to lunch,” Restle says with a chuckle.

Restle, a lifelong resident of Cincinnati, lives close to both her and her husband’s families, allowing for the creation of many fond memories and Sunday night dinners.

“As much as I love traveling and seeing other parts of the world, I love that my family is here,” she says.

Grayson grew up in Minnesota before moving to California and the Midwest. She is happy to now reside in Cincinnati and work closely with her SUA colleagues.

“I am honored to serve the young women and their families in my parish and community,” Grayson says.
