EVENT PICS: Mayfield Foundation's “The Art & Science of Healing"
The Mayfield Education & Research Foundation held its first annual “The Art & Science of Healing”, an exciting new combined fundraising and educational event, on Saturday, March 21 at the 21C Museum Hotel downtown. Against the backdrop of the hotel’s mind-expanding art galleries, guests were invited to celebrate personal triumph over challenge as they enjoyed healthy, locally sourced cuisine from the hotel’s Metropole restaurant and learned more about the art and science of healing.
The event brought together over 255 guests, including current and former patients, families, friends, colleagues, physicians, clinicians, and health care and civic leaders, and raised more than $90,000 in support of the Mayfield Foundation’s new Community Education funding priority.
Patient honorees included survivors of brain aneurysms, brain tumors, debilitating back injuries, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson’s disease. Professional portraits were made of the patients during the event to celebrate their good health, and all guests were invited to learn more about brain and spine research, treatments, and good health through visually stunning and interactive exhibits. Event featured included a marathon “relay” race between Mayfield patient Harvey Lewis and local runners and guests; the Refuge Meditation Space, including a 20-foot labyrinth, yoga as performance art by Mayfield Clinic employee Mary Kemper, and Tibetan bowl player Ron Esposito; a core instructional area by Sports Therapy, Inc.; and complimentary massage and acupuncture treatments by UC Center for Integrative Health & Wellness. Speakers on the topics of health and wellness were Dr. Amy Mechley (Medical Director of The Wellness Division at The Christ Hospital), Terri Hanlon, MSN RN (COO of TriHealth Corporate Health), and Dr. Sian Cotton (Director of UC Health’s Center for Integrative Health & Wellness).
