For more than 30 years, brides have trusted the BonBonerie in O’Bryonville to create the perfect cake for their weddings. “They start here because we have a solid reputation for being cooperative with creative ideas,” says Sharon Butler, co-owner of the bakery with Mary Pat Pace. “It’s way more than a plain cake: It’s a fancier finish to your wedding.”
The staff stays on top of current trends, but, Butler says, “The only trend that really matters is that now everyone personalizes their wedding.” The BonBonerie is up for the challenge of far-ranging requests, from a woodland-themed cake to one perfect for a Bollywood bash. Recently, new urban reception venues in the city have brides asking for simpler, more modern styles. “There’s a cohesion with the space, the dresses and the menu. Everything is custom.”
Some BonBonerie clients request a small cake for cutting, but then treat their guests to a full-scale dessert bar complete with specialty cakes, pastries and cookies.
Before the big day, many couples call on the BonBonerie for help with other events, too. “There are lots of ways to celebrate,” Butler says. From cakes for showers to tea sandwiches for bridesmaids’ luncheons, from customized treats for out-of-town-guest goody bags to cookie place cards, the bakery and its café are eager to provide that special touch.
